Dining Room/Toy Room

I just started blogging and this is my first time to participate in Kelly's show us where you live Friday. I wish I had started posting at the beginning of the home tours. I am glad that I did get on board for this assignment so that I will always remember our dining room/toy room.

These curtains were on the windows in the dining room when we moved in. When we converted it to a toy room we moved them to the foyer entrance so we could close the room off. This way we don't always have to look at the toys.

This is the view from the foyer. One day when the boys are bigger we will move the toys to the basement but for the time being they are too young to go down there and play alone.

We put this love seat in here so the adults would have a comfy place to sit and watch the kids. This was a suggestion from the grandparents who don't always like to sit on the floor. The square containers are full of toys, one for each boy.

This is a do-it-yourself art display. I used self stick carpet squares that I got at Fred's. I was tired of looking at a blank wall but didn't want to put push pins directly into the wall. This is also where I displayed Christmas cards so the kids could enjoy them.

This is the view from the pantry/breezeway that goes into the kitchen. As you can tell this room gets lots of sun light because I moved the curtains. I thought I might put in blinds but haven't gotten around to it. The art table is the only place that any eating is accomplised in this dining room! The boys often sit here and eat their snacks.

I made and painted the cubbies that I use to store the toys in. My 4 year old has always liked his toys organized. The baskets help us all stay organized. Both boys just pull out the basket they want to play with and then when it is time to clean-up they just put it all back in there and put it away.

I made this paint pallete to hang on the wall above the cubbies. I saw it in Pottery Barn and decided to make one. I used a canvas and pre-made circles from Hobby Lobby. Then I just painted everything.

This is the other set of cubbies. We put things in the upper cubbies and on top that we don't won't the youngest to be able to drag out.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

  1. I remember the days of the toys in the dining room...they go by too quickly. I love the carpet square idea. I think I'm going to try that in one of my kid's rooms. Thanks for sharing.
