Discipline

My husband and I are pretty strict with the boys. We definitely try to pick our battles and use various forms of punishment. Sometimes punishment comes in the form of time-outs, loss of toy, or spanking. There are a couple of deal beakers that usually require a spanking and one of those is talking back. After giving Rome a spanking - basically one swat on the behind - for talking back to me because he didn’t want to come inside - I then put him on the time-out stool and this is the conversation that followed. R: Mommy, you should be careful when you spank someone you might break something. Me: What? R: I said that you might break something when you are giving someone a spanking. Me: Like what? R: My butt Me: (trying not to bust a gut laughing) Did you just say butt? R: Yeah, my daddy calls it that Me: I am not going to break your bottom or anything else when I spank you and if you say butt again you will have to stay in timeout. Like I said, I need to pick my battles.
